What does 'PDP authentication failure' mean and how do I fix it?

By Serhat Dogan · Last updated 2026-06-04

'PDP authentication failure' is a data-connection error: your phone reached the network, but the data session was rejected — usually an APN setting or a line that needs to re-register. On a Miyaw eSIM the APN is normally automatic, so the fix is usually to re-register the line or, on a few devices and on Japan plans, to set the APN by hand.

What it is

PDP is the data channel between your phone and the network. 'Authentication failure' means that channel was refused. It's a settings or registration issue — not a damaged eSIM — so it's almost always fixable from your phone in a couple of minutes.

Check the APN (only when needed)

Almost all Miyaw plans set the APN automatically. Two cases need manual entry: Japan plans (vmobile.jp for the Docomo plan, plus.4g for the Softbank day plan) and a few Android models. If the APN is empty or wrong, set it to the value in your Miyaw confirmation and leave username and password blank.

Fix it step by step

  1. 1Toggle Airplane Mode on for about 30 seconds, then off, to re-register the data session.
  2. 2Restart your phone.
  3. 3Confirm Data Roaming is ON for the Miyaw line.
  4. 4Android: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → [eSIM] → Access Point Names — check the APN matches your confirmation (Samsung: Connections → Mobile networks → Access Point Names).
  5. 5iPhone, Japan plans only: Settings → Mobile Data → Mobile Data Network → set APN to vmobile.jp (or plus.4g for the Softbank day plan).
  6. 6Still failing? Email hello@miyaw.io with your phone model and plan.
