eSIM compatible phones: check your model
By Serhat Dogan · Founder & editor, Miyaw eSIM · Last updated 2026-06-03
Most eSIM compatible phones were released from around 2018 onward. The quickest check is Settings -> Mobile data -> Add eSIM; if that option appears, your phone is eSIM-capable. You can also dial *#06#; an EID number next to your IMEI means the phone supports eSIM.
The reliable check
Two ways to confirm in under a minute. First, Settings → Mobile data (or Network) → Add eSIM — if the option exists, you are set. Second, dial *#06#: an EID number alongside your IMEI means eSIM is supported. Your phone must also be carrier-unlocked to use a third-party eSIM like Miyaw.
All brands
iPhone
iPhone XR, XS and XS Max and most later models support eSIM, and iPhone 14 and newer sold in the United States are eSIM-only. Mainland China iPhone models are a major exception — many ship without eSIM.
Samsung Galaxy
Galaxy S20 and newer, the Z Flip and Z Fold foldables, the Note 20 series, and select A-series models (A35, A54, A55, A56). Note that some US carrier-locked Galaxy S20 units do not support eSIM.
Google Pixel
Pixel 4 and later all support eSIM. Some Pixel 3 and 3a variants do too, but carrier and region affect it — use the Settings or EID check to be sure.
Other brands
Many recent Motorola, Huawei, Oppo, Sony, Rakuten and Honor phones support eSIM too. Because support varies by model and region, use the Settings or EID check above to be certain.
Two things to watch
- Carrier-locked phones: a phone locked to a carrier may reject third-party eSIMs. An unlocked phone is required.
- Region differences: some models sold in mainland China do not include eSIM hardware.
Questions about eSIM support
How do I check if my phone supports eSIM?
Two quick ways: open Settings → Mobile data → Add eSIM — if the option appears, you are set. Or dial *#06#; an EID number alongside your IMEI means eSIM is supported.
Can I use an eSIM and a physical SIM at the same time?
On most dual-SIM phones, yes. Your physical SIM keeps your home number for calls and texts while the Miyaw eSIM handles data — this is Dual SIM Dual Standby.
Do iPads and tablets support eSIM?
Many cellular iPads and some Android tablets support eSIM. Use the same check: look for Add eSIM in the mobile-data settings, or an EID in the device info.
My phone is locked to a carrier — can I still use Miyaw?
A carrier-locked phone may reject third-party eSIMs. You will need it unlocked by your carrier first; once unlocked, a compatible phone works normally.
